Australia
Australia is located in the southern hemisphere and comprises the mainland also known as the Australian continent (World’s smallest), the Islands of Tasmania and numerous smaller Islands in the Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. Australia, according to World Economic Index figures is a, Prosperous Developed Country. Australian Cities are ranked among the world’s highest in terms cultural diversity and quality life and so are the education standards in the country.
The Country has achieved a literacy level of 99% since education was made compulsory in 1870.It is well to note Australia is the flattest continent with the oldest and least fertile soils plus it is the driest inhabited continent on our planet, yet it has turned out to be such an attractive destination for those seeking higher education. Away from the desirable likeable Cities, most of Australia is desert or semi-arid land, areas which today are commonly known as the Outback.
The Australian climate is significantly influenced by Ocean currents and seasonal tropic low pressure system that produces cyclones in North of the country. The South East and South West corners of the Australian Continent are where a large proportion of the population lives. These two corners experience a temperate climate. Climate change is becoming a Global challenge and the same can be said about Australia. Unfortunately the country’s carbon emission per capita is among the highest in the world. Many Australians today feel protection of the environment is their utmost priority.
Going by the United Nations Human Development Education index for 2008, Australia is ranked at the top of the world with Denmark, Finland and New Zealand in their education standards. In Africa and Asia students aspiring for higher education outside their countries are shifting to Down Under. During the 20th century, American popular culture has defined the modern Australian Culture through television and film. Migrants from the neighboring Asian Continent and Islands have provided Australia with a vibrant, exciting and informed culture. As the world strives to embrace our diverse ethnic backgrounds, the continent ‘Down Under’ provides a shelter for students who opt for excellence in education and quality of life.
